Here’s something I’ve been messing around with in my spare time…I’d rather have Gatherer fixed, but this at least has functional comments and ratings: http://www.ratemymagic.com

I’ve now added the ability to rate/comment on sets as well as cards, and some functionality to generate a random booster for a set (still a little rough)

I’ve added a bot that is slowly importing old ratings from gatherer, as well.

Have now finished pulling in all ratings from gatherer. Also added more filtering and sorting options and improved query performance somewhat. Cleaned up some cruft and added code to fetch images that are missing from gatherer from other sites.

Sad face. Rosewater has talked on a number of occasions about how he wants it back up… but Rosewater isn’t in charge of Brand or Webmastering.

We’re now in a situation where you can sort the cards in Standard by community rating, both ascending and descending, and get the same result: alphabetical order. I wish there was something I could do about this, but I’m afraid I just don’t have the Klout to really rattle the saber.

The only good news I can think of is that you can still order by community rating. That means that despite how embarrassing it is to have the system not work the way its supposed to, the powers that be aren’t removing the buttons because they believe in a day when these options will return to us. Or they just don’t care enough to notice what’s going on. I’d like to believe in the former, though.

[…] Gatherer’s comment and rating system are still broken.  But if it never broke, the next article would have been the top ten white cards according to Gatherer.  And if that article existed, Mom is a strong contender for the top ten [I recently ran the numbers, but it’s hard to know for sure.  An interesting quirk in Gatherer is that any card which has yet to be rated immediately becomes ‘the worst’.  Mom saw three different reprints that count as ‘the worst’.  But her score in Urza’s Legacy is an impressive 4.583.  Meanwhile, of the current batch of theoretical ‘top ten White cards’, four are bolstered by cards that received an insufficient number of votes when the system was falling apart.  A five star rating established by four voters is no way to anoint ‘the best of the best’.  Given all this, Mom is likely to slot somewhere between sixth and ninth place.] […]

[…] I certainly can’t complain about insufficient randomness.  Before Gatherer’s feedback section went kaput, Island of Wak-Wak picked up a solid 3.877 stars.  I’m sure at least a half-star came from […]
